Learning with Loan Boxes

Encouraging children to find out more about the area is one of our museum’s key aims.

Our loan boxes contain a range of exciting items on a number of different themes and provide wonderful opportunities to handle real objects which is important as it can bring history to life!

The Loan Boxes are available to any schools or groups including adult groups within the West Dorset area.  There is a charge of £10 to borrow a box for up to six weeks. A poster is available for display in staffrooms and the process is explained here.

Themes include:

  • Fossils
  • Early History: Neolithic–Iron Age and Romano-British
  • Tudors
  • Flax & Hemp
  • Victorians
  • Twentieth Century including World Wars, 1950s and 1960s
